Brooklyn and Austin | Budir, Iceland Elopement

they sat there together, hand in hand. the priest spoke of love, and choice and admiration. never once did they take their eyes off of eachother as his thumb gently rubbed the top of her hand back and forth. they spoke their vows to eachother with such calmness. there was no rush, no nerves. they weren’t trying to rush through as quickly as they could so they could take photographs in the beauty of the icelandic country side. they didn’t care who was listening. they didn’t even flinch or notice when a tourist tried to walk into the back of the church in the middle of their words. they were simply there. present with eachother. speaking their hearts and promising their lives to one another. this was the point, not the photographs, not the dress although it was beautiful or the dinner or the details. it was this moment. it was such a refreshing reminder after being so excited to photograph an elopement in Iceland that this was not a photoshoot. this was so much more than pretty pictures in lava fields and waterfalls. this was about these words, whether they were in iceland, medicine hat, or the comfort of their own kitchen, and my job was to remind them the way they looked at eachother while they said them. to show them the visible love that is between them, to remind them of that moment when he whispered to her that she was so beautiful. the way she holds his hand as he guides her down the path. the way he wrapped his arms around her to keep her warm and how she comfortably rested her head on his chest in the mist of what felt like a hurricane. how all the noise, the cold, the exhaustion, and the chatter was drawn out when they were together. what an honor that was for me to preserve these moments for them, and what a beautiful way to start a life together.

“being in love is temporary madness. it erupts like volcano’s and then it subsides. love, is what is left behind”. – the priest during the ceremony to broolyn and austin

“brooklyn, you are my light in the darkness, my courage when i’m afraid… i am completely and utterly in love with all that you are”

“austin, the love that we share cannot possibly be defined by the worlds that we say today or ever. let our love be defined by the time we spend by each others side, encouraging and inspiring one another when times are tough, laughing until hurts and by the way we selflessly, authentically and passionately love one another.
