the sun was dropping quickly and we were running out of time to get down to the water for sunset. we decided to make a quick stop on the side of the road for a canyon shot, we all said, “2 minutes tops! then we will be back on the road!”. i ran out to the little perch and frantically got my camera settings in place as jeremy walked out to the point. he turned to look at jocelyn as she gracefully moved towards him and his face softened as he was consumed with her beauty. the sun was glowing behind her lighting up her hair and her dress sparkled in the orange sunlight. he held out his hand and she slowly placed hers in his as he guided her towards him. once she reached him, they just stopped in that moment in each-others arms and it was as if the world fell quiet. he slowly leaned in and kissed on the forehead as she melted into him, and all of a sudden, there was no more hurry, no more rushing.
i decided to take a breath and give them as much time as they needed to live in that moment. this was a day for them to celebrate their love for one another, this was not a photoshoot. it didn’t matter where we were, as long as they were together and i was so grateful for being reminded of this lesson. we should not be rushing around trying to make sure we can “pose” and “create” the most magical photographs with the best light in the perfect locations, we simply need to be present and capture the natural moments that unfold as the day goes along. strong meaningful photographs that are cherished for generations are ones of feeling and emotion, they are the photographs where you look back and see how deeply loved 2 people are in that small insignificant second in time. the moments where everything made sense, where you felt like you can exhale and the weight of the world was lifted off of your shoulders. the photographs that take you back to the words spoken and the feelings felt. and so i was reminded to take my time and live in every second for exactly what it is, instead of hurrying on to the next and chasing the sun. all of that other stuff, light, locations, schedules… it all works out if the focus is on the right thing,..you can always find magic, you just have to look for it.
one of the most incredible days of my career to date, so grateful that these two made the trip all the way from canada to elope here on this beautiful island and i couldn’t be more excited for them. their love for eachother and for life is inspiring and it was an honor to get to share a part in such special memories for them. we made it to the beach just in-time to see the last of the sun, but even if we had been a few minutes later, it still would have been perfect as long as they were with eachother… days like these pass much too quickly on their own, let’s not hurry them away <3
