Yet again! another rainy day and rainy forecast. it was like we just couldn’t win with the weather this month and every session i photographed was mostly in the pouring rain. we had planned to do the road to hana with janel and rob, and stop wherever we felt would be a good spot. despite the rainy weather i knew that when i photograph sessions with essentially no plan it leaves room for the unexpected, and that is always when the magic happens. sure enough, the first spot we had wanted to stop at wouldn’t let us on the property for a commercial shoot. again, what doesn’t work out usually is just making way for something better, so i wasn’t concerned and janel did so great at trusting me and going with the flow. i had no idea what we were going to find, but sure enough an hour or so later (after getting stuck in construction, and having to pass up our plan b spot due to flash flood warnings) i saw the coolest gravel road off of the highway in a forest filled with fog. it was one of the most magical scenes i have ever shot in and had we been focused on a plan i almost guarantee we would have missed it. rob wrapped janel up in his arms as the mist rolled in and out and i had butterflies i was so excited.

after that we figured we had come so far, so we might as well just go all the way to hana and check out the red sand beach. we hiked up there together, hung out, took some photographs and ended up with a solid set for these two. no plan for the win!
