This photo may look like a dream (and it was) but if there’s one thing I learned from the last 29 years is that life doesn’t always go the way you planned it, and my 29th birthday was no exception… as Peter reminded all day throughout this day, I guess “you can’t have adventure without a little adversity”😂 .

The universe had other plans for us for my birthday and from the very beginning everything that could have gone wrong, was going wrong. Broken down trucks, running out of gas, working late, no sleep, malfunctioning kayaks, our friends kayaking dog, the list goes on. Needless to say we didn’t quite make it to where we thought we were going on June 23rd, but we did make it to this paradise, our own secluded beach somewhere down the NaPali! We took naps in the shade, played beer pong with the epic seashells we found and spent a little more time in the ocean than anticipated 😂 We stopped at this spot originally to empty out 2 of the 4 kayaks that were sinking and to wait out the wind … (Peter and I did not sink this time, for the record;)) and after an epic beach day we decided to listen to all the signs and head back home instead of continuing on to our anticipated camp spot down the coast… best decision ever because 15min into our journey we ended up having to balance 3 people on our double-man kayak, towing a sunk kayak behind us and sailing back with a Tommy Bahama umbrella 😂 (thanks to Peter’s amazing idea) – hands down THE most insane day maybe of my 29 years of life but we all had a blast and somehow made it back home safely – we lived a story we’ll be talking about for forever 😂🙏🏼. It just goes to show how important it is to stay flexible on your adventures and listen to your gut and watch for the signs! Kauai has a mind of her own so it’s important to keep an open mind and not to be too stuck in your plans when adventuring. What an epic day and I’m grateful for an exciting send off into the last year of my 20s! Sometimes you just have to be able to laugh about stuff like this, and we sure did lots of that, haha!!
